M.P.R.I.

MPRI(Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute) is where Allison and Cindy has been spending a lot of their time . MPRI recently decided to take some new pictures for their website. They asked Allison to be a part of the "photo shoot". I thought it would be nice to share them with all of you a glimpse of the treatment process. Here are photos that are possibly going to be on their new website.

What a fantastic group of people! Their compassion and mission to help people going through tough times is very evident. Allison has nothing but great things to say about all of them. They have been so helpful and caring to both Cindy and Allison during their stay.

Thank you MPRI staff for all of your work. May God bless you!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all of you from the Hostetler Family. What a joy to have my family together for this weekend with the way 2009 has gone for us. It was special for Cindy and I to attend a great Christmas Eve service at our church and praising God for all of His blessings, with our children.

Yesterday we attended the funeral for Cindy's Grandpa Charlie. Grandpa passed away last Tuesday morning. Grandpa Charlie was a neat man and I always felt accepted as one of his own grandsons. I thank him for that. I will always cherish the times that our kids got to spend with their great grandpa Charlie. Not every kids gets to know their great grandparents and mine have been blessed that experience with nearly most of theirs. Thanks grandpa for everything and we look forward to seeing you again in heaven!

This has been one amazing year for our family. Words cannot express our gratitude to all of you. Your prayers, meals, financial support, encouragements and love have meant more to us then you will ever know. Unfortunately, we will never be able to thank everyone personally because of so many have helped us. But know this, you are appreciated!

One scripture that has been running through my mind during this whole process is James 1: 2-3.
2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. The whole idea of "joy" during trials sounds crazy when you think of it at first. But, my outlook on this verse changed a lot the last few months. The only reason I can give is that I now lean on Him way more than I did before. This verse is reassuring to me in that I know He is in charge and that this will only strengthen me and my family. Now that doesn't mean I don't mess things up with my attitudes sometimes, but, by His grace I am redeemed and so are you! None of us can earn salvation it is only by God's grace and love for us that we can be called His children. So if you don't have a relationship with Jesus Christ, please receive the greatest gift anybody could ever give you. I know the whole concept of getting something like this for free is way to much to comprehend, but just know that it is. That gift is eternal life with Him in heaven. Do it today!!!!

Allison has treatments Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week. Then a couple next week. So we are in the home stretch! Please continue to keep
Allison in your prayers as she starts to wrap up the proton radiation treatments. Specifically that the headache pain not increase more than what it is now. Also safe travel for Cindy, Tyler and Tim as they will be spending the next few days in Bloomington during Christmas break. I'll be home with the dogs and cows and hope to get some projects done at home before they get back.

Thanks again for all of your love during this time and I look forward to sharing with you soon. May God Bless you and Have a Merry Christmas.

All Us Visit Bloomington

Yesterday Tyler, Tim and I went with Cindy & Allison to Bloomington and got a personal tour by the director Mary Beth. Also Claire(one of Allison's good friends) and Chase (Allison's boyfriend) came along. What an awesome place this is and the technology is incredible. It was neat to see how this all works. Tim stayed down there with Mom, Allison and Claire, while Chase came back with Tyler and I. It's obvious the people at MPRI really care for their patients!

Here's Chase having a little fun while I try to sneak a picture. He didn't think I would post it....evidently he doesn't know me very well....ha ha!

As far as treatments, Allison will have them Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Then we will all be together for a nice long Christmas weekend. I can't wait!

Until next time....

A Letter From Cindy

Below is a letter that Cindy wanted me to post on the blog. I am thankful that she put this down in writing. Please continue to pray for her as well. She's got a lot on her shoulders down in Spencer and Bloomington. Helping Allison with all of her emotional and physical needs can, I am sure, be overwhelming at times too. She amazes me!

Trent

This letter is in response to the account at Interra Credit Union that was set up to help with Allison's medical expenses.

Thank-you. Two words that seem very minuscule compared to how much your contributions have helped us and reminded us how God always provides. Trent and I cannot express how much it meant that our friends would do this for us. We are extraordinarily blessed to live amongst wonderful communities and have extended family and friends to support us. Your prayers have provided support and peace that is not able to be understood. Words cannot express our true heartfelt gratitude.
We wanted to share something that happened just recently. Trent received a letter at home regarding a large balance that was to be paid at the first of the year, because we will need to pay new deductibles and reach new out of pocket limits for the New Year. This amount was fairly large and I hoped that I could call and set up on a payment plan like we have at Riley’s and for other doctor services. When I called she was very helpful and commented that a plan could be made, however a lump sum would need to be paid first. The amount she told me was $1,300.00-$1,400.00. The rest would then be placed on a payment plan. This was a relief, but at the same time this amount was a lot, since we are currently still paying on several plans. Trent called Kim to check on the balance in the account to see how that would help us. Without knowing the amount we had to pay on January 5th, she told him that the balance was $1340.00. When Trent called me back and told me, my knees went weak. Words again could not express what I was feeling. God provided a way through all of you to help us. You all were a part of God’s plan. Even if you have not provided monetarily, your prayers have been heard. Peace and provisions have been provided. We are in the midst of answered prayers. I had to share this information because so many times I feel we are afraid to acknowledge provisions God provides as merely coincidence. Not only has God provided monetarily, but I can tell you that there is no way that I, Cindy, could be as content as I am without answered prayers. This year has provided many challenges for my “planning” personality and expectations I had for the holidays. I am realizing peace in confusing times. This is by the power we have through prayer.
People ask me….. have there been doubtful times? yes!….have there been emotional breakdowns?...yes!....are you scared sometimes?...yes! But I believe that God allows us to feel weak and helpless, so we can then feel the immensity of His power. When we can feel beyond what we know is capable on our own—it is a miracle. So we have you all to thank for your part. Your support in various ways has allowed God to work. . When we begin to worry about the future, we remember Philipians 4:6-7. Rich Yauger placed that verse on the bracelets that the Grace youth group is selling for Allison. He picked out a wonderful verse that reminds us continually to give everything over to the Lord.
This holiday as you celebrate this special season remember this miracle that you have been a part of and ALL the miracles in your own life. Thank the Lord for those blessings—they are real. Please continue to pray for Allison and our family. She is scheduled to have treatments through January 5th, but may not be released till the 8th. There will be many visits in the spring and throughout the next year. Pray that her healthy tissue is protected and that the tumor and head pain diminish. Pray for all who are caring for her that their hands will be directed by God and His will be done. Continue to pray for our family as we will be glad for some time together over Christmas break! The transition back into a “normal schedule” for Allison is bound to be somewhat overwhelming physically and emotionally. The side effects of radiation will continue to be apparent for several months and thefull effects not apparent for up to a year. Thanks again so very much.

And More Visitors.........

This past Sunday part of the Fairfield Girls Golf Team surprised Allison at Castleton Mall in Indianapolis. Asst. Coach Dan Vogelzang, Brittany (Chris & Traci too), Kelsey, Hannah and Tanya pulled off the big surprise. Allison was thrilled to see some of her teammates that she hadn't seen for quite awhile. They put this poster together on the way down. It has a picture of each member and a little note from them as well. The ones that couldn't go, sent a message by text to be written on the poster. It is awesome!

Allison has been experience an increase in headache pain from the treatments. This was expected. However, she still isn't thrilled by it. The doctors have changed her medication and hope to keep her off steroids. She is starting to get a "tan" spot the size of an apple on her forehead. The doctors say that she may tan darker in that spot for the rest of her life (that should be interesting). She is now over half way through on the treatment plan and is looking forward to getting back to a normal life.

Keep praying that the pain will not increase too much more and that she is able to continue to stay on track with her schoolwork.

Thanks for all the meals for the boys and I. I will definitely have to go on a diet after this whole adventure. There are so many good cooks helping us out.

Trent

“But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.”- Luke 1:30-33

Visitors......

This weekend Allison got some much needed "therapy". First, a group of girls, from Grace Community Church, went down to visit Allison. She really enjoyed catching up with them and spending time with them. Thanks to Linda, Kari, Brittany, Charlotte and Hannah for taking the time out of your schedules to see Allison.

Allison starts another full week of treatments today. If have the count right, today's treatment will be #17. Which means she is half (or a little more) way done. She has enjoyed getting all the cards and wanted me to make sure and thank those of you who have sent them down.

Thanks!!!

Letter from Allison....

I thought today I would just update the blog with something that Allison wrote. This was sent to Mr. Kreider at Fairfield. He was a teacher of her's last year and is in charge of the school newspaper. Parts, or all, of this might be appearing in the upcoming school newspaper. Thanks to Mr. Kreider for your constant contact and encouragement with Allison. Also thanks to all the Fairfield staff for your efforts........ Trent

Hello from Bloomington, Indiana-- Home of the Bloomington South Panthers and MPRI – Midwest Proton Radiation Institute. I have been spending a chunk of my time at both of these places. If some of you don’t know, I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. It was determined over the past several months that it was growing and could very possibly soon begin to cause more serious problems than just a bad headache. It was determined that proton radiation would be the best option for my particular situation. So here I am. I began my adventure here on November 16th and will be receiving treatments until the first week in January. Not only must I experience the uncertainty of the radiation, but the uneasiness of attending another school—one that is almost three times the size of our high school. To determine which classes were closest to Fairfield’s, I attended almost a full day of school on Nov 18th –which I thought was indeed the longest day of my life!!! I almost hid in the bathroom at lunch because I had no one to sit with, got lost on one of the three floors (still don’t know where I was), and used my old locker combination on my new locker. I thought about leaving a trail for myself to follow like Hansel and Gretel or stick post-it notes on which flight of stairs I was to use, but didn’t see much point because the mass of students would get in the way. I definitely questioned whether it would ever seem easier. I was exhausted when my mother picked me up and we still had a doctor appointment and my first treatment! No time for the weary! My first treatment was a bit nerve wracking, I won’t lie. I prayed that God would protect my healthy brain tissue and that the technicians and doctors would be guided by His hand.
As most things go in life, I am adjusting to both school and the treatments. I am making friends and can navigate myself on all three floors of Bloomington South. The treatments are becoming routine and once the mask is tightly fitted and I am strapped to the table, I find myself relaxed enough to sleep. As far as side effects, I am currently experiencing greater headaches and my hair is thinning. I do not expect to lose all my hair, but believe me my eyes have seen much worse than a bald head, so I will not waste anxiety on that issue.
I am working almost constantly on homework. It is very hard to teach yourself and understand concepts without the help of our wonderful teachers at Fairfield. The teachers at Bloomington South are wonderful as well, but we are not working on the same lessons so it creates some difficulty. Overall the teachers at Fairfield and Bloomington South have helped me immensely and I couldn’t begin to complete this semester without their help.
One interesting difference between the schools is the cell phone policy. I was so thankful that they allow cell phone use during lunch and passing periods. I know it sounds silly, but on the first day I called my mother because I needed a boost of confidence. I found the policy very interesting because many students used phones during passing periods and lunch, but used respect and did not use during class. I thought this was very interesting. I feel that because the students were given the freedom and they learned responsible use of cell phones early in school, there wasn’t an issue. Something to think about…J
I have learned so much the past few weeks. There are too many lessons to list, but here are a few. Do not take life for granted or pass up a time to say “sorry” or “I love you”. I have seen the frailty of life first hand. I have learned that people are the same wherever you go. Sure your surroundings mold certain behaviors, but in the depths of people, we are very similar. I also believe that we each posses a great strength within us to do things we never thought we could do. So—Don’t sell yourself short—It is in all of us. Another thing that I have learned, (well, not really “learned” but reminded) is God’s love for me. He loves EVERYONE so much, and I hope that EVERYONE someday will accept and embrace His love…it is SO GREAT! He HASN’T left me during this time. Still in the back of my mind, I sometimes wonder again and again, why God? Why do I have to carry this burden? Well, I have learned that I don’t have to carry this burden alone; I just have to give it over to God. I KNOW God keeps His promises, because He already has in countless ways in my life. I am praising God in this storm, I know He will carry me through…He already is.
“Life isn’t about waiting for the storms to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
I would like to thank the Fairfield Student Body!!! I cannot tell you how amazed I am everyday at the love I feel from all of you. I have appreciated the little gifts, cards, text messages, phone calls, and most importantly your prayers. My inner strength has been fueled by your love and support. Words cannot express my appreciation. “Thank you” is hardly strong enough to show you the importance of your generosity, but it will have to do for now.
Please continue to pray for me over the break and I hope to be back in school soon after school begins in January. Philippians 4:6-8. Merry Christmas!!! -Allison Hostetler

Back to Bloomington

Well the weekend visit is over and Cindy & Allison are on their way back to Bloomington to begin treatments again. It was great to have Mom and sis home this weekend. It's funny how the "normal" day to day becomes abnormal when somebody isn't home. It definitely made me more appreciative of "normal" life.

It was a busy weekend. We all went to the Fairfield basketball game Friday night so we could watch Chase play. Allison was excited to see some of her Fairfield "family". The hugs and encouragements are always appreciated. The rest of the weekend was SAT's at Penn and catching up with her grandparents, aunts, uncles and church family. What a support system we have!

Last Friday Cindy and Allison met with Dr. Thorton after her treatment. The tumor is going to swell, from the radiation. Because of this, she is to avoid any strenuous excersise for up to six months after the treatments. The main thing is to make sure the tumor does not clog the, for lack of a better term,"drain tube" for the spinal fluid from the ventricals in the brain. Strenuous activity could help push that along. This shouldn't effect her plans for track this spring too much. She is a discus thrower and shot putter, and they don't do much running anyway. She is also supposed to sleep with her head elevated above her heart, so we have purchased a wedge to keep her in a better sleeping position.

That's where we're at so far. Thanks you all for everything!

Home

There really is no place like home. Especially for Allison and Cindy. They arrived back home yesterday afternoon. Our puppies went nuts when they walked in the door. Last night they both commented how nice it was to lay down in their own beds.

This morning Allison is taking S.A.T.'s at Penn High School. Then some time catching up with some family and friends.

God bless,

Trent

More Treatments

My apologies for not updating the blog much this week. Allison had treatments everyday this week and so far so good with those. However, her headaches have definitley been getting worse and has notice a slight thinning of her hair. The pain medication has been helping keep a control of the pain level. The doctor told us that she would experience a worsening of the headaches so this was not unexpected.

As most of you know we have two dogs that are very close to our family. Allison and Cindy miss being around our dogs a lot. So, to get their "dog time" the have been visiting a pet store once in awhile. Of course, each of them has picked out their favorite. As you can see by the picture, Allison has fallen in love with this white German Shepherd. (Nobody get an wild ideas)But, I'll have to be the bad guy and limit our household to two dogs. Oh well, it isn't the first or last time, I am sure of that.

Please pray specifically that her pain levels don't increase much more. Thanks.

Back at It

Now it's time to get back at it. Allison has treatments everyday this week. She has a treatment this afternoon then the rest of the appointments will be at 7:00 a.m. They will come home Friday, after her treatment, for the weekend. Please be praying for her at these times the rest of this week. She has been starting to feel some of the side effects of the radiation.

It was great to see my wife and little girl this weekend. It was funny how they know where things are and how to get to them in both Boomington and Spencer already. Before the IU game Saturday, Cindy took us to MPRI where she gets her treatments. We also went to Bloomington South. Wow, what a big school!
Allison wanted to make sure I continue to thank everyone for the cards and prayers. She looks forward to thanking everyone in person when the treatments are done.
God bless all of you.

Thanksgiving in Missouri

Wow! What a weekend. A lot of traveling but a lot fun. The boys and I were excited to pick up Mom and Allison Wednesday evening. We then followed the Pinions to Webb City, MO. We arrived about 2:30 a.m. A special thanks to Doug and Crystal (one of Dave's sisters) for allowing us to stay in their house during our stay. Thursday was, of course, a great meal and I managed to stuff myself....again. On Friday the girls did a little shopping and Dave's youngest brother, John, and Dave's Dad took the boys, Chase, Dave and I to a public park shooting range. The boys had a blast shooting some guns of John. It was great for John to take the time to show the boys some gun safety and correct ways to handle them.

Allison loved seeing Chase's grandparents and family again. They have been so nice and supportive to her. Cindy and I also enjoyed getting to know them this past weekend. Here's a picture of Allison and a cousin of Chase's, Katlin (probably didn't spell it right).

Early Saturday morning we left and went back to Spencer, IN. We went to an IU game, saw my cousin Austin and went back to the house to watch, unfortunately, another ND football loss. The boys and I came back this afternoon.

It was a long weekend but an absolute blast. Most importantly, we were together after being separated for almost two weeks. That is what I was most thankful for on this Thanksgiving.

Look for the opportunity.....

So far so good on the treatments. Allison had another one early this morning and is ready for a couple days off. The boys and I will be heading down this afternoon to Spencer, IN and pick them up. Then we will be going with the Pinion family to Missouri. For some reason Allison thinks she needs to spend time with Chase.... hum... Then we will head back Friday to spend time with Allison and Cindy in Bloomington and go to an IU game Saturday.

The picture I have posted today is Allison and a little girl named Jada. Jada has been having to be sedated during her treatments. The doctors would like her to be able to go through the treatments awake. Jada was very nervous about doing that so they hooked her up with Allison. Allison spent time talking with her and assuring her it wasn't a big deal. Jada even got to watch Allison get her treatment.

This just reaffirms my belief in that God has a hand in all of this and that it was planned that Allison could be there with this little girl. I know we tend, as Christians, to say "It's all in God's plans". How often do we say that but not really mean it? We tend to say that as a way to comfort others. We have to believe it as well! This whole thing was definitely not in my plans for my daughter, for sure. But, this has been a reminder to me of how God does work things out. I could list so many things that have worked out for us during this whole trial. From doctors visits to people we've come in contact with that we never even knew, to all of our family and friends that have been helping us out, to the teachers and administration at Fairfield and at Bloomington South. I am so proud of Allison looking for that opportunity to help someone else out during her own trial. God is most definitely working!

My family would like to wish your family a blessed Thanksgiving! Your encouragements, prayers, hugs and food have meant so much to us. We are thankful for you!

More treatments

Allison had a couple of days off this weekend from treatments. We did, however, find out that she will have treatments until January 8th. We thought she would done on December 31st but Dr. Cheng has ordered an additional four treatments to take up to thirty-four total.

Allison spent most of the weekend working on homework, homework and more homework.

Many of you have asked me for her address while she's down for treatmeants. Here it is:

Supper with Austin

Last night Cindy and Allison met with my cousin Austin for supper. He is a senior at IU. Now, I promise I won't hold that against him (ha ha). They had a great time getting to know each other more. Cindy said it was a fun time.

Thanks Austin for checking in on them!

I promised I would try to update this daily. Well, I know yesterdays was late, but, you'll notice is was still dated Friday!

Looks like we will be going to Missouri to spend Thanksgiving with the Pinion family. We will be there a couple of days then back to Bloomington to go to an IU game. It will be good for the five us to do something together again. I still may wear one of my Notre Dame shirts though......

Allison hasn't felt any of the coming side effects, yet. So keep praying that they will be minimal when they do start coming on.

May God bless you in a special way today.

"Wafflized"

As you see, by the picture, the mask was a little tighter today. Allison had her second and third treatments. So far everything has gone well. The staff at MPRI are awesome and very helpful, according to Allison. Thanks to everyone for the prayers. Keep them coming!

One Down and Twenty Nine To Go.....

Well the first treatment is complete. Everything went well and Allison told me last night she was not feeling any side effects. Course, they said that she wouldn't start feeling the side effects until they get further along in the treatments. Today she has one at 4:30 this afternoon. Above is a picture of Allison take yesterday outside of MPRI.

She attended some classes for the first time at Bloomington South. It was an interesting experience for her and maybe just a taste at what college life could be in a couple of years. One nice thing was that they are using the same book, as Fairfield, for Pre-Calculus. As she put it, the classes are a little more laid back than at Fairfield. The teachers seem to be more "on task" at Fairfield than Bloomington South. (Great job Fairfield teachers!) The teachers at Bloomington South are very helpful and are willing to spend a little extra time to answer Allison's questions. Thank you to all you teachers and your answer to the call of helping kids.
Keep praying for protection over Cindy and Allison while they're away from home. Also that Allison's side effects will be limited. May God Bless you in a special way today.

The Little Things

I am sure you've all heard of the "its the little things in life that...." phrase. Allison sent me a picture of something she thought was funny. Cindy and her ate lunch at a place that had mini pitchers for glasses for their pop. Allison thought it was so funny she sent the picture and called me and we laughed about it. After I talked to her I realized how important it was to hear her laughing, even though it was "little thing". Just to know that she hasn't changed and she still enjoys life with the stress of what is approaching her and how she's dealing with it. She is a special girl.

This morning she is attending some Spanish III classes at Bloomington South. This will help her with the vocal portions of class that she is missing out at Fairfield. She is learning very quickly how nice her small school is. She said there is like 600 kids in the cafeteria at a time, per lunch period. That's almost as much as her whole high school put together! But, it will be a good another learning experience for her. Mr. Fletcher, the principal at Bloomington South, has been very helpful. Thanks again to Mr. Hoskins for setting that up!

Here first treatment is set for 2:30 this afternoon. She will then have treatments at 4:30 on Thursday and 4:00 on Friday. She is looking forward to getting going with these and starting the count down from 30 treatments.

Things are going well at home with me and the boys. We definitely aren't starving! Thanks to all who have provided meals and are going to provide meals. Course, I maybe quite larger by the time Cindy and Allison are back, oh well. Please keep Tyler and Timothy in your prayers as they go through the change of not having Mom and Sis around. They are troopers but I know it bothers them.

Until next time....."remember the little things in life and cherish them"

"Practice Round"

Not a whole lot to report today. Allison has a 10:00 appointment with Dr. Cheng, the oncologist. He is a very nice man and most importantly a Christian! The first time we met with him he asked at the end of the appointment if it was ok if he prayed with us. We were immediately reminded of God's presence in the room and His hand over Allison. After the appointment with Dr. Cheng, she has a "treatment simulation" at MPRI. This is the proton radiation clinic. What I can gather is that the simulation is to make sure everybody is lined up and on the same page. At some point today they are also going to make contact with the principal at Bloomington South. Mr. Hoskins, Fairfield's Principal, has made contact with him and has laid the groundwork for Allison to get some tutoring while she is down there. So a lot of prep work today! Thanks again to all of you who came over Sunday evening! I am still overwhelmed!

Thankful!

Thanks! That's the word that sums it all up. That's the word I want to send to all of you who came and gave Allison such an awesome send off. I really never knew we could fit that many people in our house at one time. As I told someone earlier, I was pretty sure there was some kind of fire code violation with that many people. But, what it told my family is how fortunate we are to have so many friends and family we have. I cannot express how much it meant to have each and everyone one of you come and give Allison one last hug before she, and the rest of the family, go on this journey of radiation treatments. One that I never in my wildest dreams think that we would have to endure with one of our children. Thankfully it is benign and treatable. It makes me think of all of those families that have to endure cancerous treatments and lift them up in a special way today. A special prayer goes up for Keri Rohr as she continues treatment for malignant tumor that was removed. Here parents are classmates and good friends of mine. She is one strong kid and Allison has gotten to know and love her for her strength and the example she is to Allison. So, when you pray for Allison please remember Keri as well. So one last thanks to all of you for your love and support you showed last night. A special thanks to Dave Hartzler for taking so many pictures! Here are just a few.

We are a blessed family!

BB's inserted!

Allison had three BB's inserted into head this morning. I got to talk to her and she sounded a little tired, but overall pretty good. She said that the spots where they were put in are pretty sore. She's in for another CT scan right now and then they get to head home.

We have been getting so many prayers and encouraging words from so many people. We thank you and ask that you keep the prayers coming as a first step toward radiation treatments is made.
Here she is after the surgery with a good ole "Sponge Bob" surgery hat.

Mask Time

The time is gettting closer............

Allison and Cindy left for Bloomington yesterday afternoon for the start of some tests and to get fitted for her radiation mask. Don't ask me what the mask is all about, I just know that you need one. I am sure it is to protect your face and areas that do not require treatment. Tomorrow (10/27), Allison will have a procedure to install "BB's" into her skull. The way I understand, and I could be wrong, they are used as markers to make sure she's lined up for the radiation treatments.

Cindy and I thank you all for the prayers and we ask that you continue during this nerving time. Also keep Tyler and Timothy in your prayers as the three of us learn to manage more time together and take care of the house while Mom is in Bloomington with sis.

Yesterday , Pastor Jim, gave a message that I really needed to hear. Isn't amazing how
God works that way? It was about how God allows to be overwhelmed so we draw closer to Him. Over the years I am sure many of you have heard "He won't allow you to go through more than you can handle". Well, that's not the way that verse should be interepreted. I Cor. 10:13 talks about temptation and that God will provide a way out of that temptation. It doesn't say that you won't be tested or go through trials. In fact plan being overwhelmed at some point! It's about our Heavenly Father wanting that relationship and wants us to cast our burdens to Him. If we only had to go through small things, eventually some would think they didn't need Him anymore. As for me, I am now trying to let go, because I can't fix the situation on my own.
I would be a liar if I didn't admit that I have felt overwhelmed a lot lately. I know my wife has been too. As all of you know it is a lot harder to have your children go through something like this rather than yourself. But, with God's help, we will overcome! And we will be stronger because of it.
Until next time..............
James 1: 2-4
2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

The Latest

First of all, I want to apologize for not updating this blog. Course, there may not be anybody reading it anyway. But, it's good therapy for me.

It's been a busy fall for my family. Golf season for Allison has wrapped up. The Fairfield Girls won their first ever...anything really. They won the NECC Conference Tourney. It was about time these girls got some "hardware" for their hard work and accomplishments. Allison was one of four Fairfield girls to receive All-Conference. She was actually third over all in the tournament.

Tyler has his last 8th grade football game tomorrow night at Central Noble. They've had some tough games and a couple really good games. I am really proud of Ty for how hard he's worked and how I've never really seen him get down about losing a game. We usually talk about things he can work on and he seems to focus on getting better and contributing to the team.

Timothy had his last PFL game this past Saturday. They won to finish the season undefeated. In the last game he actually scored a touchdown! He was absolutely thrilled. Tim has really gotten into football and had moments where he surprised me at his aggressiveness. That makes a Dad proud!

Now for the latest on Allison and her treatments. The time is coming really fast! Allison begins the treatments on November 17th at MPRI in Bloomington. Thus begins six weeks! I know she is anxious about starting and getting it over with so she can go on with her life. Cindy and I know that she is strong and that our Heavenly Father is definitely with her. But, the pain you feel when your child is going through something like this can be overwhelming. We are so proud of her, not necessarily for what she's done, but how she's done it. She has not been shy on sharing her faith and we couldn't be anymore proud of her for that alone. Please keep her in your prayers.

Also, don't forget her brothers. It will be a tough time not having Mom and Sis at home with us. It's not something I'm not looking forward to either. We like to be home together and especially during the Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years holiday season. It will be a learning and growing experience for all of us.

November 16th

Sorry I haven't updated this for awhile. Busy....busy....busy is the lifestyle here at the Hostetler household. After the fair it takes awhile to get things back on track.

It looks like November 16th will be the start of the proton radiation treatments in Bloomington, IN. Cindy and Allison will be staying with some family friends. I am so thankful for their willingness and generosity. This will start a six week, five days a week treatment. With this schedule she should be done at the first of the year...hopefully.

As far as our schedule until then...Allison has started the actual match portion of her golf season. This is the first year that they have four golfers that are all about the same scores. Which, makes a big difference in team golf. What is cool is that they look at themselves as a team and not just individuals. They have done very well at the last two invitationals and beat both teams in a dual match this past week. Go Lady Falcons!

Tyler has started eigth grade football now. They don't have any games for a couple weeks yet but I can see a real difference in him from last year. Not just physically but the way he approaches practice and his desire to perform and play well.

Tim has started in our young kids football program, PFL (Prairie Football League). He was slowed a bit by a broken big toe before the practices started, but now is in full swing. They had they're first game yesterday and they won. He played offensive line, defensive line and also got to run the ball on offense. He is having fun and I can't wait to see him at the end of the season once he gets a real grasp of everything.

Many have been praying for our family and it is so much appreciated. Please continue! Pastor Jim started a new series today called "Crazy Stuff". It is about how God has done and will continue to do things that only He can put together. We just need to remember to put it in his hands and let Him go to work. I can't wait until Allison's tumor is gone and we will be praising Him for the His faithfulness and love.

May God continue to bless you all.

The latest......

What a busy week of traveling last week! We took Tyler to golf camp in Franklin, IN last Sunday morning. Tyler had a great time and camp and made some new friends. I really look for his golf game to get going. Here's a picture taken during one of their sessions.
Allison had a doctor appointment with Dr. Chang (oncologist) Wednesday morning and we picked up Tyler that afternoon. Friday, Allison had a post op appointment with Dr. Boaz. Whew...what a week! Three trips to Indy!

The way it looks now, Allison is going to have six weeks (five days a week) of Proton Radiation at MPRI in Bloomington, IN. We are hoping to start in mid November so part of the time will be when everybody else is off of school. There have been so many amazing things falling into place lately. God is at work and will be glorified through all of this. I will tell you about them in my next post.
May God bless you!

G.O.L.F

G.O.L.F. "Greatest Of Life's Frustrations". I can't take credit for that little "phrase", but I am sure many of you have seen it on shirts and hats around golf courses this year. Well, my golf game may be frustrating at times, this is true. However, the opportunity that I have to spend on the golf course with my kids is one of lifes greatest rewards!
I am so lucky to have all three of my kids into golf. Allison has been playing for about three years. She has picked up on it really quick and last year was all conference and was one stroke away from being the conference champion.
Tyler is going to be an eigth grader this coming school year. He has played on the Jr. High team for the past two seasons. When he relaxes, he has such a sweet swing. He has really improved the past couple years and can really hit it when he gets a hold of it. I look forward to seeing what he does when he gets to high school. What I like the most is that he really practices a lot and puts a lot of time in.
Tim (pictured above) actually gave up baseball so he could play more golf this year. That was a decision he totally made on his own. The picture shown above is Tim after he got his first "official" par. Allison witnessed it and took the picture. He loves going out and playing with his big brother and sister. I am glad he is getting an early start. Look out for Tim as he gets up to Jr. High and High School.
Believe or not, Cindy has really got into it too. She actually admits she enjoys watching a close PGA match on TV! How many wives will admit that? Not many I would say. She enjoys watching and keeping score of our kids during a match. So if you're playing our kids, you better make sure you keep score correctly cause she's watching.
I always said that I would only play golf if we could do it as a family. Who knew that the plan would actually come to fruition. Too many guys I know have gone off and played for four hours while the family sits home. That won't happen to me. I will go with "the guys" once in a while. But my foursome is already set....Allison, Tyler, Tim and Me (with Cindy riding along to keep score).
Have a great day!

Update on Allison

Here's the latest on Allison.....As many of you know she had a biopsy on June 17th at Riley's Childrens Hospital. It was a four hour procedure (including the CT scan). She did great during the procedure and we were kept in the loop by the wonderful staff at Riley's. The original info the doctor has given us is that the tumor is benign. Which is totally awesome! However, the continued headaches is something that is somewhat suspicious and puzzeling. The neurologist isn't totally convinced that the tumor is causing the headaches. The oncologist is supposed be contacting us any day now on what the next step will be as far as attacking the tumor. Even with it being benign, there is still the possiblilty of it causing issues with the ventricals that house the cereberal spinal fluid.

So we wait some more and continue to pray that God will provide a healing and strength for her as she continues on with life. This has been a real learning experience for us as a family. Patience and trust is definitely something that I feel God is teaching us. I am so proud of Allison on her attitude and strength. She is a great kid, and I'm not just saying that because she's my little girl.

Thanks for all the kind words, encouragement and prayers.

My first blog

My first blog? What is a blog? It wasn't that long ago I wondered what a blog really was. Then I got hooked on Pastor Jim's blog and Pastor Rich's blog and thought it would be really cool to do one too. So, here I am, writing my first blog entry.

Just a little about me and my family. My wife Cindy and I were married on April 15, 1989. We have three great kids. Allison 16, Tyler 13 & Timothy 10. They keep us busy with all kinds of activities. From dance to golf to footbal to choir to 4H livestock...you get the picture. I work at our family own business of Hostetler Door, Inc. We sell and install sectional garage doors and rolling doors for residential and commercial. I am involved with the Elkhart Co. 4H Fairboard and just finishing up my first year on the Fairfield Community Schools School Board. So yes, we are a busy family, but we do almost all of it together.

We recently became members at Grace Community Church in Goshen. They are blessed to have a wonderful group of pastors leading them. We couldn't be happier with the church and the spiritual feeding we are getting right now. This was a big step for us and one that we made sure we took our time at so we did it for the right reasons.

Well, that's enough for now on my first blog entry. I promise to be not so boring on the next one. May God bless you and keep you safe.
